Genre: Thriller

Publisher: Minotaur Books

Published: January 17, 2017

Series: Orphan X series

Book in Series: 2

Format: Kindle

Pages: 369

My Rating: 5 stars

Synopsis:

They trained him to hunt now he's the hunted.  A former military asset code named Orphan X. Evan Smoak works as the Nowhere Man out to protect the helpless.  Until the night it all goes wrong.  Ambushed, drugged, and kidnapped.  Evan wakes in a locked room.  He's outnumbered and out gunned.  His captors are sure they outsmarted him.  But they have got it all wrong.  He is not locked up with them.  They are locked up with him.

My Thoughts:

The book begins with Evan waking up to find that he is locked in a room.  He had been kidnapped, and drugged.  Evan decides that he is going to make a plan to escape.  He still has his phone, which is an untraceable, and receives a call for help, will he be able to escape in time to help?

This book takes along on a wild ride, as Evan tries to escape to help the people who have called him for help.  There is a lot of action, and intensity as we follow along with him, as he tries to escape to help these people, who badly need his help.

As I was reading this, I found myself cheering him on to try and escape.  I have to say that while we read in the book that Evan is a very closed off person, it was nice to get to know him, and learn more about how he came to be a part of this program, that he has been a part of since he was a child.

We see him wanting to help people, despite all the training that he has received over the years, and also the lives he has taken.  He is trying to be a better person, and you can tell that he is working very hard to be that person.

Book Review Orphan X

Title: Orphan X

Author: Gregg Hurwitz

Genre: Mystery

Publisher: Minotar

Published: January 19, 2016

Pages: 379

Format: Kindle, Audiobook, IBooks, Kobo

My Rating: 5 stars

Synopsis:

The Nowhere Man is a legendary figure spoken about only in whispers.  It's said that when he's reached by the truly desparate and deserving, the Nowhere Man can protect them and save them.

Evan Smoak is a man with skills, resources, and a personal mission to help those with nowhere else to turn.  He is also a man with a dangerous past chosen as a child, he was raised and trained as part of an off the books black box Orphan program, designed to create deniable intelligence, assets, or assassins.

My Thoughts

I wasn't sure if I would be interested in this book, even though it is a mystery.  But I have to say, this book is one of the books that took me a day and a half to read, because it was that good.  This man was trained to be a contract killer and instead of doing that anymore, he decides to become a person who helps people.  But then things happen, and he becomes someone who is hunted.

As I was reading this, I felt sympathy for Evan, he is alone, and doesn't or can't trust people.  I felt like I was walking his life with him as he tries to help people, and also tries to elude the people who are chasing him.

This book was action packed, and had a very good story line.  The story line kept me on the edge of my seat!  This book was excellent, and I would definitely recommend this book. This is my honest opinion.

Book Review: Tom Clancy's Full Force and Effect

Title: Tom Clancy's Full Force and Effect

Author: Mark Greaney

Series: Jack Ryan Series

Series number: Book 14

Genre: Political Thriller

Publisher: G.P. Putnam Sons

Published: December 2, 2014

Pages: 674

Format: Kindle, Audiobook, Amazon, Barnes and Noble

Synopsis

A North Korean ICBM crashes into the Sea of Japan.  A veteran CIA Officer is murdered in Ho Chi Minh City, and a package of forged documents goes missing.  The pieces are there but assembling the puzzle will cost Jack Rayn Jr and his fellow Campus agents precious time.  Time that they don't have.

The challenge facing Jack Ryan, President of the United States is on old one with a terrifying twist.  The international stalemate with North Korea continues into its seventh decade. On the ground and on the global stage, both jack Ryan and his son race against time to halt a madman from acquiring the world's deadliest weapon.

My Thoughts:

I have been a big fan of Tom Clancy and the Jack Ryan series for as long as I can remember, so when I saw that Mark Greaney was of the authors picking up where Tom Clancy left off with Jack Ryan and his son, I was a little hesitant.  The reason being, is that I felt that there wasn't anyone that could write this series better that Tom Clancy.  But I can admit when I am wrong.

Full Force and Effect is an excellent book, and the plot and the way it is written lives up to the series.  It is action packed, but it also has the moments of where we see how the characters deal with every day life, and also deal with the threats to the world.  We divulge into a world of spies, and how they work behind the scenes, to stop a threat to the government, and find who tries to kill the President.

While reading this, I felt like I was in the middle of the story, and could picture my surroundings, as I read.  I wanted to help the characters stop the enemy and the threat.

My honest opinion is this book is an awesome, book, and it is definitely a tribute to Tom Clancy.  I would definitely recommend this book to those that enjoy political thrillers, and to anyone who is a fan of Jack Ryan and or his son Jack Ryan Jr., and also who is a fan of Tom Clancy.

Again this is my honest opinion.
